Sentence:
কতগুলো Word বা শব্দ পাশাপাশি বসে যদি বক্তার মনের ভাব সম্পূর্ণ প্রকাশ পায় তবে তাকে Sentence বা বাক্য বলে। যেমন:
Rahim goes to school everyday.
Please lend me your book.
How cute the baby is!
Sentence পাঁচ প্রকার:
- Assertive Sentence
- Interrogative Sentence
- Imperative Sentence
- Optative Sentence
- Exclamatory Sentence
Assertive Sentence:
যে Sentence কোন সাধারণ বিবৃতি প্রকাশ করে তাকে Assertive Sentence বলে। যেমন:
The boys are playing football.
The girl is dancing.
Assertive Sentence আবার দুই প্রকার। যথা: 1. Affirmative Sentence 2. Negative Sentence
Affirmative Sentence:
যে Assertive Sentence দ্বারা হ্যাঁ বোধক বা ইতিবাচক বিবৃতি প্রকাশ পায় তাকে Affirmative Sentence বলে। যেমন:
Raju is reading book.
He made a basket.
Negative Sentence:
যে Assertive Sentence নেতিবাচক বা না বোধক বিবৃতি প্রকাশ করে তাকে Negative Sentence বলে। যেমন:
Raju is not playing football.
You should not hate the poor.
Interrogative Sentence
যে Sentence দ্বারা কোন প্রশ্ন জিজ্ঞাসা করা হয় তাকে Interrogative Sentence বলে। Interrogative Sentence তিন ধরনের হতে পারে। যেমন:
Yes/No Question:
এসব প্রশ্নের উত্তর শুধুমাত্র Yes/ no বললেই হয়ে যায়। যেমন:
Have you completed your homework?
Did you draw a picture yesterday?
Wh- Question:
একটি সম্পূর্ণ উত্তর করতে হয় এবং প্রশ্নবোধক শব্দে W/H word গুলো থাকে। যেমন:
What is your favorite color?
When will you go?
Tag-Question:
Statement এর শেষে প্রশ্ন করা হয়। যেমন:
He is a doctor, isn’t he?
You are a student, aren’t you?
Imperative Sentence:
যে Sentence দ্বারা আদেশ, উপদেশ, অনুরোধ, নিষেধ, প্রস্তাব প্রভৃতি বোঝায় তাকে Imperative Sentence বলে। Imperative Sentence গুলো সাধারণত মূল Verb দ্বারা শুরু হয়। যেমন:
আদেশ/ উপদেশ বোঝাতে–
Verb + Object + Extension
Respect your parents. Open the door.
অনুরোধ বোঝাতে–
Please + Verb + Object + Extension
Please, give me a glass of water.
please, lend me your book.
নিষেধ বোঝাতে-
Do not + Verb + Object + Extension
Do not hate the poor.
Do not run in the Sun.
প্রস্তাব বোঝাতে-
Let + Sub এর Object form + Verb + Object + Extension
Let us go out.
Let us play football.
Let him do the work.
Optative Sentence
যে Sentence দ্বারা মনের ইচ্ছা বা প্রার্থনা প্রকাশ পায় তাকে Optative Sentence বলে। যেমন:
ইচ্ছা বোঝাতে-
If + Sub + Were + Complement.
If I were a bird.
If I were a king.
If I were you.
প্রার্থনা বোঝাতে-
May + Sub + Verb + Object.
May Allah bless you.
May our President live long.
May you be happy in life.
Exclamatory Sentence
যে Sentence দ্বারা আকস্মিক বিস্ময়, হর্ষ- বিষাদ, আনন্দ, বেদনা প্রভৃতি প্রকাশ পায় তাকে Exclamatory Sentence বলে। যেমন:
Hurrah! We have won the game.
Alas! I am undone.
Fie! fie! You are a great fool.
What a beautiful girl she is!
How cute the baby is!
