Preposition:

Pre শব্দের অর্থ পূর্বে এবং Position শব্দের অর্থ অবস্থান করা। যে Parts of Speech কোন Noun বা Pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে এবং Sentence -এর অন্যান্য শব্দের সাথে ঐ Noun বা Pronoun-এর সর্ম্পক স্থাপন করে তাকে Preposition বলে। বহুল ব্যবহৃত Preposition গুলো হলো: On, Over, to, in, Into, For, By, With Between, Among ইত্যাদি।

Preposition as Adverb:

Preposition এর Object বা Preposition এর পর কোন Noun বা Pronoun না থাকলে ঐ Preposition টি Adverb হিসেবে গণ্য হয়।

Example: Please come in.

I saw him before.

Raju is playing outside.

Preposition এর প্রকারভেদ:

Preposition সাত প্রকার।

• Simple Preposition: In, on, at, to, by, with
• Double Preposition: Into, upon, within, upon, from behind, from among
• Compound Preposition: On+ by+ out = about, by+ side = beside, by+ hind = behind, on+ cross= across. by+ low= below
• Phrase Preposition: in spite of, in front of, in case of, in addition to, look forward to, by dint of,
• Detached Preposition: বাক্যের শেষে বসে। যেমন: What is Dhaka famous for?
• Disguised Preposition: It is eight o’clock. of clock= o’clock, He felt asleep. in sleep= asleep.
• Participle Preposition: Present Participle বা Past Participle কখনো Preposition হিসেবে ব্যবহৃহ হলে তাকে Participle Preposition বলে। যেমন: A river flows passed our village.

Preposition -এর ব্যবহার কিছু ব্যবহার:

On, Over, Above:

এই তিনটি Preposition এর অর্থ উপড়ে। কোন কিছুর উপড়ে লেগে থাকা বোঝালে On, অল্প উপড়ে বোঝালে Over এবং অনেক উপড়ে বোঝালে Above বসে। যেমন:

The book is on the table. [টেবিলের উপড়ে লেগে আছে]

The roof is over our head. [অল্প উপড়ে]

The bridge is over the river. [অল্প উপড়ে]

The Sky is above our head. [অনেক উপড়ে]

On, in, at:

দিন বা তারিখের পূর্বে- on

I shall go to Dhaka on Friday.

The program will held on 12 December, 2025.

মাস বা বছরের পূর্বে- In

Snow falls in January.

ছোট বা নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের পূর্বে ‍at বসে।

Meet with me at 4:00pm.

In, Into, On, to

সীমানার ভিতরে অবস্থান করা বোঝালে- In

I am in the room.

We live in Bangladesh.

সীমানার ভিতরে প্রবেশ করা বোঝালে- Into

Teacher is entering into the classroom.

সীমানার উপড়ে বোঝালে- On

Dhaka is situated on the bank of Buriganga.

সীমানার বাইরে বোঝালে- To

China is to the South of Bangladesh.

To

কোন দিকে বা প্রতি বোঝাতে To preposition বসে।

I am going to Dhaka.

By, With:

ব্যক্তির দ্বারা বোঝালে By বস্তুর দ্বারা বোঝালে With বসে। যেমন:

The snake was killed by Rajib.

The snake was killed with a stick.

Between, Among:

Between এবং Among শব্দ দুটির অর্থ ‘মধ্যে’।

দুই জন বা দুইয়ের মধ্যে বোঝালে Between এবং অনেকের মধ্যে বোঝালে Among বসে। যেমন:

Divide the mangoes between Raju and Saju. [দুই জনের মাঝে]

Divide the mangoes among the students. [অনেকের মাঝে]

Beside, Besides:

Beside অর্থ পাশে এবং Besides অর্থ এছাড়াও।

She sat beside me.

I bought a book, a pen besides a pencil.

Along, Across:

কোন লাইন, সীমা বা রেখা বরাবর বোঝাতে- Along বসে।

He is walking along the road.

I am walking along the river bank.

কোন কিছুর মধ্যদিয়ে আড়াআড়ি ভাবে বোঝাতে ‍Across বসে।

He is coming across the field. [মাঠের মধ্য দিয়ে]

In, within:

ভবিষ্যৎ বড় কোন সময়ের যেকোনো মুহূর্তে বোঝাতে In এবং শেষ সময়ে বোঝাতে within বসে।যেমন:

I will go to London in January. (জানুয়ারি যেকোনো সময়ে)

I will complete the work within a week. (সপ্তাহের শেষে)
