Article
যে শব্দ কোন Noun বা Pronoun -এর সামনে বসে এবং ঐ Noun বা Pronoun -এর নির্দিষ্টতা বা অনির্দিষ্টতা প্রকাশ করে তাকে Article বলে।
Article এর প্রকারভেদ:
Article দুই প্রকার।
1. Indefinite Article:
যে Article কোন Noun বা Pronoun -এর অনির্দিষ্টতা প্রকাশ করে তাই Indefinite Article.
Indefinite Article হলো A এবং An.
Example: Give me a pen. (অনির্দিষ্ট যেকোন একটি কলম)
A boy called me. (যেকোন একজন বালক)
2. Definite Article
যে Article কোন Noun বা Pronoun -এর নির্দিষ্টতা প্রকাশ করে তাই Definite Article.
Definite Article হলো: The
Example: Give me the red pen.
The boy is drawing a picture. (নির্দিষ্ট কোন বালক)
A /An -এর ব্যবহার:
- শব্দের প্রথম বর্ণ vowel (a, e, i, o, u) হলে তার পূর্বে an বসে।
Example: Please give me an Apple.
It is an Orange.
I saw an Elephant.
It is an Egg.
- শব্দের প্রথমে consonant থাকলে তার পূর্বে A বসে।
Example: It is a Book.
I have a computer.
- শব্দের প্রথমে অনুচ্চারিত (আছে অথচ উচ্চারণ হয় না এমন) H থাকলে তার পূর্বে An বসে।
Example: He is an Honest man.
Wait an hour for me.
- শব্দের প্রথমে vowel থাকা সত্ত্বেও -এর উচ্চারণ ‘ইউ’ অথবা ‘ওয়া’ হলে তার পূর্বে a বসে।
Example: He is a university student.
Give me a one taka note.
- শব্দের সংক্ষিপ্ত রুপের প্রথম বর্ণের উচ্চারণে প্রথমে vowel ধ্বণি হলে তার পূর্বে An বসে। অপরপক্ষে শব্দের সংক্ষিপ্ত রুপের প্রথম বর্ণের উচ্চারণে প্রথমে consonant ধ্বণি হলে তার পূর্বে A বসে।
Example: He is an M.B.B.S doctor.
He is an L.L.B.
He is a B.A.
The -এর ব্যবহার:
- নির্দিষ্ট কোন কিছু যেমন: চন্দ্র, সূর্য, গ্রহ, নক্ষত্র, নদী, সাগর, মহাসাগর, দ্বীপ, দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, পাহাড়, পর্বত -প্রভৃতির নামের পূর্বে The বসে।
Example: The Sun is a star.
The Moon is beautiful.
The Jamuna is a big river.
The Himalayas is situated to the north of Nepal.
The Pacific is the biggest ocean.
- Adjective -এর Superlative Degree এর সামনে The বসে।
Example: He is the oldest man in our village.
She is the most brilliant student in the college.
- পবিত্র ধর্মগ্রন্থ, দিকের নাম, পত্রিকার নাম বা সড়কের নামের পূর্বে The বসে।
Example: The Quran, The Bible, The Gita, The Daily Star (পত্রিকার নাম), The Rajia Sultana Road (সড়কের নাম), The South, The North.
- সাধারণত Abstract Noun এর সামনে কোন Article বসে না। তবে Abstract Noun কোন নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, বস্তুর গুণ বোঝালে তার পূর্বে The বসে।
Example: Honesty is the best policy. কিন্তু
The honesty of Muhsin is known to all. (নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তির গুণ)
- সাধারণত Material Noun -এর সামনে Article বসে না। তবে Material Noun কোন নির্দিষ্ট স্থান, ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর বোঝালে তার পূর্বে The বসে।
Example: Water is called life. (Material Noun এর সামনে Article বসে নাই)
The water of this pond is dirty. (নির্দিষ্ট স্থানের)
Gold is a precious metal. (Material Noun এর সামনে Article বসে নাই)
The gold of this ring is pure. (নির্দিষ্ট স্থানের)
- Phrase -এ একটি Noun বা Pronoun এর সাথে The থাকলে তা একজন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে এবং দুইটি Noun বা Pronoun -এর সাথে The থাকলে তা দুইজন ব্যক্তি, বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে।
Example: The Chairman and Principal of this institute is delivering his speech. (একজন ব্যক্তি)
The Chairman and the Principal are coming. (দুইজন ব্যক্তি)
